Felicity was always obsessed with clothes and fabric. As a 15 year old schoolgirl she sewed and sold them in her native New Zealand. At a time when string bikinis were hot items on the beaches of Auckland, 'Flick' as she is known by her friends, was producing them.
She was utterly Frenchified – in élan and language - when she spent two years living the Franco-centric expat life in Noumea.
Then in her 20’s she founded a teen magazine, Charlie, which became the go-to mag for a generation of New Zealand girls who instantly adopted the styles and looks that Flick created in the pages. She was fashion editor, stylist, art director and creative talent at the same time.
Once the mag was sold to the Murdoch media empire, Flick switched her publisher’s pen for the clever world of advertising agencies.
Agency life sent her searching for the warm satisfaction of needle and thread again and she started sewing clothes for her daughters. It started with cute kiddie play-suits and continued to beautiful ball gowns. Her cupboards and drawers began to fill with virtual museum worthy collections of fabrics that she had acquired simply because they were beautiful.
But her longest standing love affair has been with the white shirt. “White shirts look perfect with everything and nothing. You can roll out of bed into a man’s white shirt and it looks stunning,” she says.
At last count, Flick had an unapologetic ownership of 35 white shirts and freely admits that she only makes the other garments in her collection to pair with the shirts.
When her flagship store opened in beautiful Bali in 2016, Felicity knew it was only a matter of time before The Tailor & his Lover would make it home to her beloved New Zealand shores. Since November 2018 you can find both Flick and her boutique on gorgeous Waiheke Island, a short ferry ride from Auckland. You can of course also shop online.
